Powerful substances in tiny amounts: Exploring the practice of microdosing psychedelic drugs, Petter Grahl Johnstad, 2017

Powerful substances in tiny amounts: Exploring the practice of microdosing psychedelic drugs Petter Grahl Johnstad, Pré-Print, 2017.   This article presents an explorative study of microdosing practices with psychedelic drugs. A microdose is defined as a sub-perceptual dose, commonly about one tenth of an ordinary recreational dose, which gives no alteration of consciousness or feeling of intoxication. Respondents (n = 17) were recruited at several Internet fora for individual interviews mediated via private messaging. Every participant was male, and the median respondent was in his 30s with a stable job and relationship and extensive entheogen experience. Respondents tended to experiment with microdosing in phases, [...]

Positive psychology in the investigation of psychedelics and entactogens : A critical review, Henrik Jungaberle et al., 2018

Positive psychology in the investigation of psychedelics and entactogens : A critical review Henrik Jungaberle, Sascha Thal, Andrea Zeuch, Ansgar Rougemont-Bücking, Maximilian von Heyden, Helena Aicher, Milan Scheidegger Neuropharmacology, 2018 PII: S0028-3908(18)30336-8 DOI: 10.1016/j.neuropharm.2018.06.034   Rationale : We reviewed the concepts and empirical findings in studies with psychedelics and entactogens related to positive psychology – the study of healthy human functioning, well-being and eudaemonia. It is an unresolved question how beneficial effects of psychedelics and entactogens are related to the potential risks of these substances – particularly in non-clinical settings. Methods : We searched in PubMed, PsychINFO and the Cochrane Library for controlled clinical and epidemiological studies [...]

“Microdosers” of LSD and magic mushrooms are wiser and more creative, Anderson T. & Petranker R., 2018

“Microdosers” of LSD and magic mushrooms are wiser and more creative. Anderson T., Petranker R. The Conversation, 2018 Available from: http://theconversation.com/microdosers-of-lsd-and-magicmushrooms- are-wiser-and-more-creative-101302   We just ran the first ever pre-registered scientific study on the microdosing of psychedelics and found some very promising results. We compared people who microdose — that is, who take a psychedelic substance such as LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) or “magic” mushrooms (psilocybin) in very small quantities — with those who don’t, and found that microdosers had healthier scores on key mental health and well-being measures. Specifically, we found that microdosers scored higher on measures of wisdom, open-mindedness and creativity. Microdosers also scored lower on measures [...]

Four Weekly Ayahuasca Sessions Lead to Increases in “Acceptance” Capacities : A Comparison Study With a Standard 8-Week Mindfulness Training Program Joaquim Soler, Matilde Elices, Elisabeth Dominguez-Clavé, Juan C. Pascual, Amanda Feilding, Mayte Navarro-Gil, Javier García-Campayo and Jordi Riba Frontiers in Pharmacology, 2018, 9, 224. doi: 10.3389/fphar.2018.00224   Background : The therapeutic effects of the Amazonian plant tea ayahuasca may relate to its ability to enhance mindfulness capacities. Ayahuasca induces a modified state of awareness through the combined action of its active principles: the psychedelic N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) and a series of centrally acting b-carbolines, mainly harmine and tetrahydroharmine. To better understand the therapeutic potential of [...]
